Pain in this region of the body usually involves the muscles, tendons and joints of the cervical spine. Neck pain most commonly stems from maintaining a rotated or tilted neck posture or carrying heavy loads (eg. back pack) on our shoulders. Quite often we don’t think twice about cradling the phone as we talk and type on the computer, tilting our head while reading, or watching a movie on the couch/in bed with our head propped up at a forward or tilted angle to our body. Similarly, a heavy back pack places downward stress on our shoulders, which pulls on the sides of our neck because of the muscular attachments there.
